Great work!

Dear Parents and Students,

First I want to say happy birthday to Angus Murray-Nobbs.  We wish him endless happiness and great health!  Plus good scores!!!  J

We had lots of fun with dictionary activities this week.  Our problem of the week (P.O.W) was a problem based on dictionaries.  Students worked very well in their groups and completed the problem successfully.

Here is the evidence:

Starting from next week I will daily post the homework assigned that day.  This way we can prevent miscommunication.  If there is any uncertainty, just check out our blog.  I will also weekly post the new spelling words for the following week.

Curriculum planning for Week 5:
Math:  We will finish Chapter 3, review it and also write a test on it.  We are also going to start Chapter 4.  Chapter 4 is all about addition.
English:  We will continue with Unit 2 and learn more about singular and plural possessive nouns.  We will finish and review Unit 2.
Reading:  Instead of reading and discussing The Lost and Found (because it was done during a library session in Grade 2) we read and discussed Radio Rescue and Sybil Ludington’s Midnight Ride.  In week 5 we will do activities based on these two stories.
Social Studies:  We will continue with Chapter 3, finish and review it.
Science:  In week 5 we will look at Science again and start to look at Chapter 2, which is teaching us about animals.  We will work on the classification of vertebrates and invertebrates.

Spelling words for Week 5:
7 core subject words:
addition
mammal
reptile
backbone
insects
temperature
mountain

6 frequency words (past tense forms):
(go) – went
(eat) – ate
(drink) – drank
(run) – ran
(play) – played
(sing) - sang

2 challenging words:
amphibian
dictionary

We also made our own pizzas on Wednesday.  I could see lots of talent ready and waiting to be used in the kitchen. J  We, as a class, had so much fun.  Take a look…

Please take note of the following dates:

Monday, September 26:  Social Studies Test (Chapters 1 & 2)
Thursday, September 29:  Math Test (Chapter 3)
Monday, October 3:  Social Studies Test (Chapter 3)
Tuesday, October 4:  English Test (Unit 2)

The third graders did an extraordinary job on their first oral presentation assignment.
Here is a glimpse of what some of them did:

And this brings us to Student of the week.  Our Student of the Week is Michelle Lin.  She did a fantastic job in the oral presentation.  Not only that, she is working very hard in all areas of school – and her hard work is paying off.  Congratulations, Michelle!  Great job!

Have a wonderful weekend!
