So much FUN!

Dear Parents and Students,

How quickly this week has come to an end!  Well, this brings us faster to Literacy Week!!!  What an exciting week lies ahead!  A week in which we are going to read, write and learn a lot!  A week in which we are going to be very creative!  A week full of surprises!  I am looking forward to it!

On Wednesday, December 7th, Caves Books will be at HIS, from 8.30am – 5.00pm.  There will be a 10 – 20 % discount on all books.

The third graders have practiced hard for Spelling Bee this week.  I am very impressed!  Spelling Bee is on December 9th, in the library.  Our time slot is at 9.45am.

All the third graders are also working hard to get sponsors for the HIS Read-a-Thon.  That is wonderful!  I know that the Tzu Chi Charity Organization is going to be very grateful for any money we donate!  They will use the money for all the different needs there are in our community.

This brings me to our Word of the Month.  Our word for December is thankful.  We have so much to be thankful for!!!

Thankful takes me to Christmas!  Our Christmas Evening is getting closer and I can promise you all that it is going to be a very special event.  The Christmas Evening is on December 15th at 6.30pm.  All the third graders need to wear black shirts and black jeans.  They also need white gloves.  Parents, please send a pair of white gloves to school as soon as possible.  We need to practice with the gloves.  We will also have a dress rehearsal on Wednesday morning, December 14th.  All the third graders need to be dressed in their black clothes.  Students, you can bring an extra set of clothes to school on December 14th, so we can keep your black costumes clean and ready for the next day’s Christmas Evening.

I will also send a letter home regarding our Third Grade Christmas Party.  It would be lovely to have some Christmas fun together.  Arrangements are soon to follow!

Curriculum Planning for Week 15:
Math:  We will continue with and finish Chapter 9 in Week 15.  On Wednesday, December 14th we will write a test on Chapters 8 and 9.
English:  In week 15 we will finish Unit 5 and review it.  We will write a test on Unit 5 on Tuesday, December 13th
Science:  We will continue with Chapter 8 and complete it.  There will be a test on Chapter 8, on Thursday, December 15th.
Reading:  We will do a Scavenger Hunt throughout our Reading Book.  We will also read some poems (which is part of Theme 2).  Because it is Literacy Week, we will be doing all sorts of reading, writing and listening activities.

Our Student of the Week is Jonah Stacey.  Jonah’s friendliness is remarkable and catching.  He is also very cheerful in the mornings when he gets to school.  He fits well within our class theme, Smiley Faces.  J  Congratulations, Jonah!  You are a smiling star!
